performance of students served by Big Sandy ISD is diminished because of =
the=20
extreme geographical isolation and limited resources due to the size of =
our=20
district. This isolation of the district, combined with the economics of =
the=20
area, restricts student educational resources, staff development, and =
community=20
growth. It is a 28 mile drive one way to the nearest library, found in=20
Livingston. The nearest university libraries are more than an hour=92s =
drive from=20
the school. <BR><BR>To enhance the lives of these students we must first =
provide=20
a quality education. It is difficult not only because of the =
geographical=20
location but also the limited resources due to the size of the district. =
BSISD=20
employs 36 teaching professionals in grades PreK-12. Having qualified =
and=20
equipped personnel to meet the needs of our students is a challenge. As =
a=20
result, teachers have multiple preparations with few resources to assist =
them.=20
Due to our remote rural location we are unable to transport students to =
sites=20
which would enhance their cultural and intellectual growth. We feel that =
the=20
district has a challenge to deploy advanced technology in every =
classroom.=20
<BR><BR>BSISD teachers, administration, and students need to be computer =

literate and familiar with all types of current emerging technologies. =

members need to use technology as learning tools in all academic subject =
areas.=20
Students need access to computer-based and technological learning to =
become=20
productive in the future work place and global technological world. =

Sandy ISD uses a comprehensive needs assessment using teacher/parent =
surveys,=20
interviews, inventory, site Chart base decision making recommendations, =
and=20
Texas STaR to address areas of need. <BR>

Sandy ISD is made up of one campus. At the present time, we have =
Internet access=20
in every classroom with at least two computers (and up to five) =
connected to the=20
internet and the BSISD LAN. <BR><BR>BSISD enjoys the benefits of a fiber =

backbone WAN and 10/100/1000 mbs switched LAN. We are members of the =
COMNet=20
consortium. COMNet is a consortium of most of the school districts in =
Region VI=20
ESC. COMNet members are joined by T-1 Lines connected to ESC VI. We =
currently=20
have two T-1 lines. <BR><BR>We have Rosslare's Veritrax network access =
door=20
controller. Proximity Card Readers are installed at all public entry =
doors=20
within the district. Faculty and students are issued a access card (key) =
that is=20
read by the proximity card reader and allows access to the doors for =
particular=20
times and days. All visitors are asked to sign in at the appropriate =
offices=20
upon arrival at the campus. <BR><BR>We have four computer labs and one =
mobile=20
laptop lab. The High School lab consists of 23-3.6 GHz, 512 Meg RAM, =
Windows XP=20
Pro workstations. These workstations are used to teach BCIS, Technology=20
Applications, Keyboarding, Computer Applications and available for=20
student/faculty research. The second lab is located in the Middle school =

building and consists of 20 -2.8 Ghz, 1 Gig RAM Nobilis Windows XP =
workstations=20
and are used to teach Computer Applications, Web Mastering, Digital =
Graphic=20
Animation, Desktop Publishing, Odyssey, Networking &amp; =
Telecommunications and=20
are available for student/faculty research. <BR><BR>The third lab is =

Windows XP Pro Noblis workstations and are used to teach Computer =

consoles that consists of Large Screen TV monitor, a camera, VCR, and =

One is used extensively for Distance Learning and Staff Development. =

have 37 projectors that interface with computers, one of which displays =

electric roll down projection screen. <BR><BR>We have 6 Palm Pilots. The =

pilots are used to collect student performance data as teachers assess=20
individual students using the TPRI as a benchmark. Once assessment is =

various data analysis tools and teaching intervention strategies are =
used to=20
improve student performance. <BR><BR>We have 13 sets of Quizdom =
Interactive=20
Student Response systems. Qwizdom's technology is designed to engage =
everyone in=20
the audience, it instantly grade assignments,tracks performance, and =
gets=20
students excited about learning. We currently have curriculum is the =
